The private sector plays a substantial role in delivering and financing health care in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) representing a complex mix of opportunities and threats to public health goals. The session will explore ways of supporting governments to govern the private sector effectively through: presenting the state of evidence base, introducing a progression pathway providing clear guidance on managing private sector contributions effectively, and, an interactive workshop where participants will apply the progression pathway to country contexts and contribute to the tool’s evolution as well as to the future research agenda.
